Her concern for protecting indigenous intellectual property, and her distaste for the exploitation of Native American artists and performers has kept her in the forefront of activism in the arts for forty years.

ZIMBAMOTO: Zimbabwean Fire. Based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, ZimbaMoto is a collective Afro fusion band with a range from Shona traditional music to contemporary African and Western rhythms. The four piece musical journey begins with Kurai Mubaiwa who hails all the way from Zimbabwe with his Mbira, a melodic 25 key Zimbabwean thumb piano that in Shona mythology is believed to connect the living with the spirit world.  Fusing the unique acoustic sounds of the Zimbabwean tenor Marimba and Mbira, with the pulse of the drums, the depth of the bass and rhythmical African guitar riffs.

Performing 250 shows a year, international blues musician, Texas bluesman Sonny Rhodes is the self-proclaimed Disciple of the Blues. His singing and prowess on the lap-steel guitar has resulted in a number of W.C. Handy awards nominations. Eighteen to date.This has been followed by a particularly productive period of performing and recording. In addition to being nominated numerous times for a W. C. Handy Award, Rhodes was honored for his cultural contribution to the arts by the Smithsonian Institute in 1976.Sonny has recorded several albums over the years also recording the theme song for the Fox TV series Firefly. In recent years Sonny has been honored by receiving in 2001 the Monterey Blues Foundation Lifetime achievement Award,2003 the U.S. Congressional Award for Achievement in the Blues and most recently in September 2007 the Boston Blues Trust Lifetime Achievement Award.

Iskwew (is-kway-yo) is Sandy Scofield (Metis), Brenda Hanson (Klahoose, Coast Salish) and Kym Gouchie (Carrier, Cree, Shuswap). They perform and create songs in the plains, west coast and northern interior traditions. They have performed at the First Annual Gathering of Indigenous Peoples of the Americas in Sonora, Mexico, Third International Chihuahua Festival in the cities of Chihuahua and Paquime, Mexico , the First Peoples' International Festival in Pau, France, and innumerable Canadian Festivals and Cultural Events. Individually, they come from long lines of musicians and are seasoned performers in  their  own right. Iskwew is currently in the studio recording thier debut CD with an anticipated release in 2008 on Arbor Records.

Master vocalist and Indian slide guitarist PRAKASH SONTAKKE,  has a triple master’s degree in Hindustani classical music -- on the guitar, vocals and the violin. Prakash prefers to play the Gayaki Ang (vocal style) which recreates the emotion of the human voice on the slide guitar. 

Percussionist KARTHIK SUBRAMANYA Inspired by his illustrious parents has been playing and studying Carnatic music since the age of five. He has performed internationally with leading musicians in his genre also plays and composes music for dance. Although he has a solid foundation in South Indian Classical Music, Karthik is influenced by Jazz, Funk and World music.

Floutist PRASHANT MICHAEL JOHN Born in Lahore, and raised in Bangladesh, Mainly self-taught, Prashant has studied Carnatic theory and rhythm and North and South Indian flutes, African Fula flute and Jazz guitar with accomplished musicians and teachers worldwide.

Trisha Rampersad – Vancouver

Born in South Africa, Trisha Rampersad has been dancing since the age of four. Over the years she has been involved with Bharatanatyam and Kathak Dance. However, when she immigrated to Canada with her family, she found her love for dance in Kathak. Trisha has studied with the Nritya Manjaree School of Kathak Dance for nine years, under the direction of Mrs. Madhu Khare. In August of 2004, she performed “Nrityangan,” a graduation performance, earning her the title of “Nrityamani.” Her passion lies in the fusion of the various dance forms, as she believes that there is truth within art. “Dance, this almost spiritual movement, transcends all boundaries we mere humans have inflicted upon this Earth. It frees the soul and fuels the spiritual journey.” Trisha is proud to be a part of this great dance tradition that is Kathak, and hopes to share this classical art with the future generations.

She loves to share the traditions, history and culture of Africa, and the wisdom of her ancestors, and she truly believes that the Western world can benefit from the African traditional wisdom.

Joseph Pepe Danza – Uruguay via Vancouver

Joseph 'Pepe' Danza is an electrifying percussionist and multi- instrumentalist. A native of Montevideo, Uruguay, he began classical guitar studies at age eight, and started his professional career at thirteen. He continued his studies in guitar as well as in piano, composition, music history and the physics of sound at the National Conservatory. Moving to Canada in 1989 he specialized in the study of world percussion while quickly establishing himself as one of the foremost drummers and band leaders on the West Coast.

Now based in Vernon he teaches at  the Chris Madsen School of Music and plays in different projects, most recently Jamtree.  Eastern Star – Vancouver

James Hamilton, lead sitar player has spent over twenty-five years studying the music of South Asia including fourteen years while living in India. He has acquired an indepth knowledge of traditional Indian music, studying music history, theory, and a variety of musical genres including North and South Indian classical, folk and devotional forms. He studied privately with renowned musicians and musicologists including Radhika Mohan Maitra and Ms Kalyani Roy. In 1979, he completed a Master's Degree in Instrumental Music (sitar) from Rabindra Bharati University in Calcutta. and, in 1986, he completed a PhD in Social Anthropology (Ethnomusicology) from Queen's University, Belfast, N. Ireland. His doctorial thesis, entitled "Sitar Music in Calcutta", was published by the University of Calgary Press and also in India. James has lectured and performed on the sitar in India, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. He is the leader of the world music ensemble Eastern Star.

A performing and recording artist, percussionist-drummer, dancer-singer Angela  shares her passions, offering rhythmic and vocal performances and workshops across Western Canada. Focusing on West African drum & dance for over seven years she has performed with the Togo (West Africa) drum & percussion ensemble “Gamalie” for many years and also performs with her dance company “Images” throughout BC. Angela has recently recorded with co-artist Devaki from the “Tambour Moving Art Project” a world music CD with an ensemble of voice, drum and percussion instruments, performed in six languages. She runs a company called Expression which teaches percussion, movement and song to young children in the French language.

The Love Affair -  Kelowna BC

 A brand new project The SummerHill Cipes Brothers have formed a new band rich with danceable, catchy tunes ranging from origional, rootsy songs to the Classic stylings of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. Lead by Llynn Kellman who sings and plays a lovely fiddle, while Ezra and Ari duel Guitars and sing harmonies.  The rhythm section consists of Keegan Scott of Zen Media on the double bass and Haywood on the drums.
